Last week, we experienced one of the hardest moments in our journey so far—the heartbreaking loss of Bosun, our cherished Percheron and lifelong friend.
Bosun joined us as a 6-year-old and would have celebrated his 24th birthday this year. Over nearly two decades, he became an irreplaceable part of our lives, touching the hearts of everyone who had the privilege of knowing him. He was more than just a horse—he was a companion, a teacher, and a source of endless love and comfort.
A true all-rounder, Bosun excelled in everything he did. As a vaulting horse, he was patient and intuitive, carefully assessing each rider and taking extra care with the littlest ones. He had a deep love for children, and fittingly, the last person to sit on his back was a 9-month-old baby. He was also a skilled carriage horse, a magnificent medieval steed, and a showman through and through—whether it was horse archery, liberty work, or even performing with fire, Bosun embraced every challenge with grace and enthusiasm.
Beyond his incredible talents, Bosun was a favourite among visitors, always eager for attention and a good groom before heading out to the field to get muddy again. His gentle nature and larger-than-life personality made him truly unforgettable. Those who met him couldn’t help but fall in love.
While every animal in our care holds a special place in our hearts, some forge an even deeper bond. Bosun was one of those rare souls—our confidant, our comfort, and our rock. He always knew when someone needed him, offering a quiet moment of reassurance with his signature hug, resting his head gently on our shoulders. His presence brought so much warmth and love, and life will not be the same without him.
Though our hearts are broken, we take solace in knowing that Bosun is now running free, reunited with his old friends. His spirit will always remain a part of us, and his memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
Rest easy, Bosun. You were deeply loved, and you will be profoundly missed. Until we meet again. ❤️🌈💔
